First impressions of FM LIVE
Written on the 31st May by Mark
Welcome to my first article on FM Live, the new game in BETA testing at the moment. I have been lucky enough to be included in the testing through getting lucky in a competition.
Last Saturday I awoke to an invitation to download the client and give it a go, I was really looking forward to it, but would it be good? I had my doubts to be honest, I just didn't think it could be work.
This is my first article but I will highlight specific areas of the game for you, not going into too much detaill.
The Start
At the start of the game you're presented with various things you must setup.
1. Welcome Guide - Worth a quick read.
2. Customize your club - Kit colours etc.
3. Selecting starting skills - Pick which areas you will start off with an advantage.
4. Auto Squad select - DONT USE IT. They AI will buy your squad.
The other options can be left for now.
Auto Squad Select
What I learnt through my weeks play is don't let the AI select your team, take your time and pick your own. There is only two things for you to consider.
Who you need position wise
Wage budget
Transfer fee budget
Financies
The game works by giving you a starting budget for both fee's and wages and you must keep below both and its easy to forget. Sign two big names and you could be out of money for the rest of the team. Plan every position wisely according to your budget as you can pick up some really good players cheap too.
Consider each position and filter by the skills that are vital IE
Defender - Tackling, marking, heading, off the ball etc.
Midfielder - Depending on position, passing, off the ball, flair and creativity if attacking, marking and tackling if defensive.
HINT - Consider your aggression stat cus you get a lot of cards in this game.
Strikers - Finishing, pace, acceleration.
An idea of a good squad.
2 Keepers
4 Players who can play left, right backs including wing backs.
4-5 Central defenders.
4 Wingers
4 Central midfielders 2 attacking, 2 defending
4 Strikers
That's a pretty big squad but you could sign two decent players as well as squad players and build on it later.
Then the tactic.
Let me point out straight away, you will not win all games, no team has in this gameworld yet and it just wont happen but you can build a nice tactic to help your team get some good results.
I learnt early on that being too defensive will mean defeat and so will too attacking, but finding the right balance is extremely hard. When buying your players make sure you have a tactic in mind.
Don't tweak too much either as the players don't seem to like it at all, I did this too much early on and got hit bad.
Thats all for the first edition, yes not too long but if i write more ill go on forever as there is just too much to say.
What I will say is im HUGELY impressed with the game, it has a few bugs still but is incredibly stable and addictive is the perfect word. SI are going to have a big success with this game.
