Hints & Tips for Football Manager

Team Instructions

Below is a break down of the options for Team Instructions and how they will affect your game.

Passing
With passing you get the following options:

Mixed
Short
Direct
Long

The best would depend on the players you have. If they have good passing stats then play short passing, it will be easier to get past midfielders and defenders. If youre playing with a lower league team use Direct or Long as short passing will be too hard for them. If you have a decent enough team but their passing stats arent great them use mixed.
Closing Down
Closing down can be a good instruction to use if used with a pacey team with good stamina. It also works well with playing with counter attack enabled. Just vision it, closing players down, stealing the ball and instantly breaking away. With pace this can be deadly.
Tackling
Tackling should also be set to normal and if you have an aggressive team of players then select Easy. I never select hard as I just dont want to deal with losing a player.
Mentality
Mentality can serverly influence a game. Example your 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go. If it looks like you wont score then go gung ho and go for it. But trying this could well mean conceeding another goal so take care with this.

On the otherhand, its the last league game of the season and you could be relegated, or its the cup final why not try time wasting, but again this could be your downfall if your team just arent good at it!
Counter Attack
Using counter attack depends a lot on the pace of your team. If your teams average age is 30 dont bother it wont be much use, however if you have a team full of pacey teens then it could be a good option. It depends a lot on the players you have.

If you use this and it works you really will see great benifits from using it.
men behind the ball
Getting men behind the ball is a good tactic to use if your team are good at teamwork and can actually keep the ball a lot, if you controling a game 2-0 use men behind the ball, defensive and time wasting and watch the opposition try but fail to break you down.
Other
Corners from Left
Corners from Right

Corners right

All the above settings are straight forward and I have no real tips for them.
